By signing a mutual statement which confirms a firm commitment for further strengthening of interrelations, and also widening and deepening of various fields of military cooperation in order to strengthen regional safety, ended the 26th US-Adriatic Charter (A-5) Chiefs of Defence conference.
Today, the A-5 Chiefs of Defence together with Commander of US European Command, General Christopher Cavoli and high representatives of the US European Command, discussed different issues in scope of security, modern security threats, as well as strategies and forms of increasing security cooperation.
After signing the mutual statement the Chief of the GS, General Vasko Gjurchinovski and the Commander of US European Command, General Christopher Cavoli made statements to the media.
In his statement General Gjurchinovski pointed out that during the conference considerable amount of information regarding security strengthening and prosperity of the region was exchanged, as well as opportunities for various types of cooperation in the upcoming period. He also thanked General Cavoli, his Command and the USA for the continuous support as our most significant and strategic ally in all areas, especially defence.
General Cavoli also stressed that during the conference important issues were discussed, among which was strengthening of cyber security, interoperability and engaging in international missions, operations and exercises. ‘In order to fight modern threats, member states committed to maintain joint trainings and exercises with the allies and partners. Within the framework of the twentieth anniversary of this charter we extend our cooperation and contribute to the defence and regional safety’, stated General Cavoli.
The agreement establishing the US – Adriatic Charter was officially signed in 2003, which supported regional cooperation in the field of defence. Meetings on Chiefs of Defence level are held once a year where different issues and current security and defence topics are addressed.
