Today, at the military barracks ‘Strasho Pindzur’ in Petrovec a military ceremony was held to mark the Day of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade (1st MIBde).
As the largest joint-tactical unit within the Joint Operational Command (JOC) it is the main combat force of the ARM, which provides trained forces for support and protection of national interests and gives support in case of natural disasters and in other dangerous situations. Outside the territory of the Republic of Macedonia, with its declared units, it participates in the peacekeeping missions and fulfills the international military obligations.
The commander of the 1st MIBde, Brigadier General Zoran Mileski, in his speech highlighted the successful engagement, high level of training, professionalism and responsibility in carrying out the tasks that the members of the 1st MIBde possess in meeting the challenges of the migrant crisis.
Besides the Chief of the ARM GS, Lieutenant General Metodija Velichkovski, the ceremony was attended by other ARM generals, other high representatives of the MoD and the GS of the ARM, former brigade commanders, retired generals, commanders of the subordinate commands and units of the GS of the ARM, representatives of the local government and other distinguished guests.
The members of the brigade’s units were granted incentives for the achieved results, and 1st company of the Engineer battalion was named the best unit within the brigade because of its significant contribution in preventing illegal border-crossing by building the security barrier on our South border. At the end of the ceremony, the units of the brigade performed a parade, and the children from the primary school “Kocho Racin” from Petrovec gave an appropriate cultural and entertainment performance.
In the previous period, honoring the Day of the unit, many sport events and blood-donating activities were organized.
With a decision made by the President of the Republic of Macedonia, for determining the Day of the units of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia, 2nd of April is determined as the Day of the 1st MIBde, date when this unit was transformed in accordance with the new organizational-formation structure of the ARM. Accomplishing the operational readiness, the 1st MIBde took over the tasks and responsibilities of the previous two brigades and with this became the largest combat unit of the ARM, whose members are from different military branches.
