The Deputy Chief of Staff (DCGS) of the Army, Major General Azim Nuredin, participated at the annual meeting of the Deputy Chiefs of Defense/General Staffs of the Armies within the cooperation process among South-East Europe Defense Ministerial (SEDM) Process.
The meeting was held online, via teleconference due to the actions taken against the spread of the virus Covid-19. It was opened by the Chair of the SEDM process, Deputy Minister of Albania, Petro Kochi, and the Co-Chair, Deputy Chief of General Staff of Croatian armed forces, Lieutenant General, Sinisha Jurkovikj as the Host Nation.
During the meeting they looked over current regional security risks that countries face, challenges and consequences caused by the global pandemics caused by Covid-19, and the necessity of coordinated action when dealing with natural disasters through improving cooperation and joint assistance among SEDM members.
Concurrently, some of the most important activities in the SEDM process and SEEBRIG were presented, and at the end, joint declaration was adopted which approves current activities, and verifies following planned activities, including “Seven Stars 21” and South Eastern Europe Brigade’s activities.
This year is the 25th anniversary of signing the SEDM process Agreement, therefore, it is approved with a declaration that, SEDM process as a regional cooperation framework among SEE is successful in its development and positive contribution to regional and world peace and security.
SEDM process was firstly suggested as an initiative by the United States of America in 1996 in Tirana, in order to foster understanding and political and military cooperation, to improve regional stability and security, by being entirely dedicated to sovereignty and territorial integrity principals of its member states.
Beside the Republic of North Macedonia, other countries which participate in SEDM process are: Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Georgia, Italy, Romania, the USA, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Croatia and Montenegro, whereas Moldavia is an observer country.
Our country has been the host of the South Eastern Brigade Command – CEEBRIG since last year.
