The Chief of the Army General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski held a meeting with the UK Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Marshal Harvey Smyth in London, today. They discussed the current security situation in the region, across Europe and beyond.
General Lafchiski and Air Marshal Smyth also discussed the development of cooperation between the armed forces of both countries, the progress of NATO’s regional plans, the Army participation in NATO missions in Romania, Bulgaria and Kosovo, as well as the contribution of the Army to the EU operation Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They also discussed the new Strategic Defence Review of the United Kingdom, as well as the need to update this important document in our country, taking into account the British experiences.
As part of the visit to London, General Lafchiski participated in the two-day Land Warfare Conference where presentations were given by UK’s senior military and political leaders, as well as by representatives of the academic community, the defence industry and the banking sector.
During the Conference, General Lafchiski had a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of the British Army, General Sir Roland Walker. They discussed expanding the cooperation between the two armies, reaching the new NATO Capability Targets, the use of the capacities of the Army Training Area “Krivolak” and the implementation of joint training and exercises.
