Today, June 11, 2025, the Army Deputy Chief of Defense (DCHOD), Major General Azim Nuredin, participated in the annual meeting of the Deputy Chiefs of Defense, within the South-Eastern Europe Defense Ministerial (SEDM) cooperation process.
The meeting, held in Sofia, Republic of Bulgaria, was officially opened with welcoming remarks by the SEDM Deputy Chair, Ms. Violeta Nicolescu, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Radostin Iliev, and the Deputy Chief of Defense of the Republic of Bulgaria, Lieutenant General Mihail Popov, who acted as the host of this year’s meeting.
In his address, General Nuredin first reflected on the 25th anniversary of SEEBRIG, emphasizing that this milestone stands as proof of the collective commitment of the member nations, whose consistency ensures the operational success of the South-Eastern Europe Brigade. He further highlighted that the core focus of this process remains on peace support operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and adaptability to emerging regional and global challenges.
General Nuredin underlined that the Army remains dedicated to strengthening interoperability, supporting joint initiatives, and upholding the principles of peace, stability, and cooperation that underpin the SEDM process.
SEDM is a regional defense cooperation process initiated in 1996 in Tirana, Republic of Albania, with the aim of enhancing security in South-Eastern Europe. By promoting good neighborly relations, strengthening shared defense capabilities, and linking with Euro-Atlantic institutions, SEDM contributes to regional stability.
