Chief of the ARM GS, Lieutenant General Metodija Velichkovski, participated in the NATO Military Committee Conference, at the level of Chiefs of Defence of the NATO member states and participants in the mission “Resolute Support” (RS) in Afghanistan, which was held today (17.05.2017) at the NATO Command in Brussels.
During the RS mission participant-countries session, the army leaders were informed of the current security state in Afghanistan by the NATO Senior Civilian Representative and mission’s commander, General John Nicholson. This session looked into the recommendations for further activities and engagement of NATO and its partner countries in the mission.
In his address, General Velichkovski referred to the continuous contribution of the ARM in the RS mission, currently participating with 39 members, deployed to several locations in Afghanistan, carrying out different tasks, as well as the overall effort the ARM has made towards integrating into the Euro-Atlantic structure of NATO.
At the conference led by General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, further development of the necessary skills and resources, in accordance with the current tasks of the alliance were inspected among other issues. The participants were familiarized with the ongoing status and the derived tasks for interoperability from previous sessions.
During the Conference and his stay in Brussels, General Velichkovski had a closed meeting with General Marc Compernol, Chief of Defence of Belgium, besides his meetings with his colleague participants in the activity, during which useful information on mutual military cooperation and further activities were shared.
The previous day, the ARM delegation held a meeting with the Ambassador of Republic of Macedonia to NATO, and in the course of the following day they are to have a working meeting in the Mission of the Republic of Macedonia to NATO.
The Military Committee meets twice a year at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, at the level of Chiefs of Defence to discuss NATO operations and missions, and provide military advice on mutual interoperability between the partner countries.
