Today on the 15.10.2015 at the military barracks NH Strasho Pindjur in Petrovec there was a celebration of the Day of the Air Surveillance and Reporting Battalion (ASRB) within the Air Force Brigade.
There were many guests at the celebration, including the AFB Commander, Colonel Kire Kolevski, Chief of Staff of AFB Colonel Zaim Shkrijelj, AFB Command representatives, local officials, retired ASRB servicemen and other guests.
The President of the Republic of Macedonia and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces brought a decree to celebrate the 15th of October as the Day of the Air Surveillance and Reporting Battalion. This day was chosen because it was the day when the air surveillance was done for the first time in the Republic of Macedonia.
On the 15th of October, 1943 in the vicinity of Crvena Voda at the foot of the mountain Karaorman, there was an improvised air strip where the first military aid for the Macedonian army was delivered by the British Air Force.
Prior the delivery there had been many preparations, such as setting up and marking the air strip, establishing air surveillance of the air space in order to trigger the alarm as soon as the airplanes appeared. This was one of the first activities of this kind in the Republic of Macedonia.
The ASRB Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Aleksandar Krstevski held a speech saying that all previous generations of ASRB servicemen put a lot of personal and professional effort to establish and develop the air surveillance in the Republic of Macedonia.
He recommended the ASRB servicemen to take care of what had been done and to continue developing and upgrading their work as their primary obligation.
At the line-up of the ASRB servicemen, a congratulating letter by the Chief of GS of ARM was read and a few incentive awards were given for the Day of the unit.
