On the 11th of March 2019 the Special Forces Battalion within the Special Operation Regiment (SOR) started the course for Close Combat in Built-up Areas for the Special Forces. This is one segment of the complex special operations in urban warfare.
Some of the aims of the course are: to gain skills for close combat in built-up areas, to increase situational awareness, safe weapons handling, self-discipline and team discipline, self confidence in close quarters shooting, and to discriminate targets in order to avoid collateral damage. The course participants will improve their live fire skills in close quarters in day and night conditions, learn close quarter shooting techniques, firing while in a static position, firing while moving, moving and firing in a closed room, and other characteristic skills for accomplishing tasks in close combat in built-up areas. The live fire exercise in the so called Shoothouse, will mark the end of the course. The 32-day course is complex and hard which requires high psychological and physical readiness including true professionalism.
The urban warfare and keeping up with the modern armies in the world require our Army to be ready to conduct tasks in built-up areas as well as to be always everywhere first in order to demonstrate superiority.
