With a military ceremony in the barracks “Boro Menkov” in Kumanovo, the members of the 1st Infantry Battalion (1st IBn) within the 1st Infantry Brigade (1st IBde) marked the day of the unit, February 26. On this date in 1944 in the village of Zhegljane, Kumanovo region, the 3rd Macedonian National Liberation Brigade was formed.
The ceremony was attended by a delegation from the Operations Command (OC) led by Brigadier General Mirche Gjorgoski, a delegation from the Command and Staff of the 1st IBde led by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Sashko Lafchiski, the battalion commanders from the 1st IBde and other guests.
The commander of the 1st IBde, Brigadier General Sashko Lafchiski, addressed the lined up soldiers and the present guests stating the importance and forthcoming challenge of the unit, its dedication in completing duties and tasks. The commander of the 1st IBn Lieutenant Colonel Cherimi Shpetim referred to the historical significance of the day and the future responsibilities and tasks of the unit.
At the ceremony, certain officers, non-commissioned officers and professional soldiers were commended and awarded. As part of celebration of the day of the unit, a blood donation was carried out. The first Platoon of the Combat Support Company was declared the best Platoon.
