The members of the Air Force WING, within the Operations Command (OC), marked the 10th June – Day of the Unit, with a military ceremony that took place in the “Strasho Pindzur” barracks in Petrovec.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Defence Minister, Tiron Jajaga, the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Army, Major General Azim Nuredin, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense, Vladimir Anchev, the Chief of Staff of the Operations Command, Brigadier General Mirche Gjorgoski, army generals, representatives from the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, commanders of Army commands and units and other high-ranking guests.
On that occasion, the Chief Staff of the Operations Command, Brigadier General Mirche Gjorgoski, and the Commander of WING, Colonel Igorcho Stoimenovski addressed the audience.
The Chief of Staff of the OC, Brigadier General Mirche Gjorgoski, congratulating the Day of the Unit, emphasized that the members of the AF WING are always recognized as top professionals, highly trained and prepared, not only for the execution of combat tasks but also for quick reaction during fire extinguishing and other humanitarian missions in complex weather conditions, pointing out that the eleven airmen and members of the WING, who lost their lives while performing a task, should never be forgotten. In his address, General Gjorgoski added that as a full member of the Alliance, guided by the imperatives of interoperability and operational capability, within the long-term plan for the defense development, significant financial resources are foreseen for the modernization and equipping of the AF WING with the most sophisticated combat systems and equipment, which will undoubtedly increase its combat readiness.
The Commander of WING, Colonel Igorcho Stoimenovski, after giving the historical overview of the beginnings and the development of the military air force, expressed his gratitude to the current and retired members, who selflessly and dedicatedly invested their work in the development of the unit. During his speech, Colonel Stoimenovski stressed the importance of the challenges and processes for the modernization of the unit as a priority of vital importance, in order to successfully respond to its mission and tasks.
As part of today’s ceremony, incentive measures were awarded to members of the unit, after which those present had the opportunity to see an overflight of F-16 aircraft as part of NATO’s air patrol, as well as an overflight of some of the AF WING aircraft.
The AF WING celebrates June 10, as a date when in 1992 the first flight by a military crew of a newly formed Macedonian Air Force took place.
