The Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, who is on a three-day working visit to the Czech Republic, participated today in the regular conference of the NATO Military Committee (MC), held in Prague.
During the conference, General Lafchiski actively took part in the sessions, engaging in discussions on issues of strategic importance to the Alliance, emphasizing above all the commitment to further support for Ukraine. In further discussions on achieving NATO’s goals, he highlighted the significance of the ongoing process of equipping and modernizing the Army to fulfill the country’s obligations to NATO.
At the opening of the conference, welcome addresses were delivered by the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, the President of the Czech Republic and former Chair of the MC, Petr Pavel, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Czech Republic, Lieutenant General Karel Řehka.
During the first session of the conference, a review was given about the implementation of the decisions taken by the allied countries at the Washington Summit in July of this year. As the alliance celebrates its 75th anniversary, NATO leaders are taking major steps to further strengthen deterrence and defense, strengthen long-term support for Ukraine, and deepen global partnerships.
The Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Christopher Cavoli, briefed the Chiefs of Defense on the progress of implementing plans that make the Alliance stronger in deterrence and defense against any potential adversary.
As part of NATO support package for Ukraine, discussions also included the establishment of a new NATO command designed to plan, coordinate, and organize the delivery of security assistance.
In the third session, the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Philippe Lavigne, informed participants about the progress of transforming NATO’s warfare approach in accordance with the NATO Defense Planning Process (NDPP).
Additionally, the Chiefs of Defense discussed the establishment of NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Center (JATEC), a key pillar of practical cooperation, aimed at identifying and applying the lessons learnt from Russia’s war against Ukraine and enhancing Ukraine’s interoperability with NATO.
The conclusions of the meeting will be announced at the afternoon joint press conference of the Chair of NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, Lieutenant General Karel Řehka. The NATO Military Committee at the level of Chiefs of Defense holds two annual meetings, and once a year it sits in one of the allied member countries.
