The Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, participated in the NATO Military Committee Conference at the level of Chiefs of Defence, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, today.
The meeting, presided over by the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, was attended by the Chiefs of Defence of the Allied countries, as well as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Alexus G. Grynkewich, and the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, Admiral Pierre Vandier.
The discussions at the conference focused on current security challenges and strategic issues of vital importance to the Alliance, with particular emphasis on strengthening collective deterrence and defence, implementing the decisions adopted at the NATO Summit in Ankara, innovation and technological development in defence, as well as continued support for Ukraine.
During the meeting, General Lafchiski reaffirmed our country’s firm commitment to strengthening collective defence and preserving regional stability. In this regard, he highlighted the continuous participation of our Army in activities aimed at protecting and defending the Alliance’s eastern flank, as well as its commitment to continuously enhancing operational readiness through modernization processes, intensive training and participation in international exercises.
As part of the working session of the conference, a vote was also held to elect the next Chair of the NATO Military Committee.
The Military Committee meets to discuss NATO operations, missions, exercises, capabilities and other relevant issues. As NATO’s highest military authority, its main role is to provide, by consensus, military advice to the North Atlantic Council on how the Alliance can best address global security challenges.
Prior to the start of the activities, the Army delegation, led by the Chief of the General Staff, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to the Kingdom of Denmark, Mr. Fadil Zendeli.
