In the period from 8 to 10 November, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Major General Azim Nuredin together with General Staff representatives, as part of the delegation led by the Minister of Defense Slavjanka Petrovska, visited the NATO Multinational Forces in Romania where the Macedonian contingent operates under the enhanced Vigilance Activities mission.
During the visit to the Otopeni barracks, the delegation visited the soldiers of the Macedonian contingent, part of the Multinational NATO Forces in Romania. Minister Petrovska and General Nuredin had a meeting with the Commander of the Multinational Brigade South-East, Brigadier General Constantin Nicolaescu.
General Nuredin and the delegation also visited the Headquarters Multinational Division South- East located in Bucharest, during which the Deputy Commander, Brigadier General Loic Gerard and members of the staff discussed the Brigade activities, as well as our units’ tasks in Romania and Bulgaria.
The role of the NATO Multinational Division is to coordinate NATO operational forces in Romania and Bulgaria during the conduct of NATO Article 5 operations. Within the framework of NATO’s Black Sea security structure, the division complements the Allied command and control structure by implementing the readiness action plan.
The Army of the Republic of North Macedonia began its contribution to the NATO Multinational Forces in Romania in November 2022, by sending a platoon, i.e. 35 members within these NATO forces. The purpose of NATO Multinational Force in the Eastern Flank of the Alliance is to strengthen collective security and demonstrate the unity of member countries in protecting every inch of the Allied territory.
