Celebrating the 25th anniversary of ARM, there was a military ceremony at the barracks “Ilinden” in Skopje which also marked the 25th anniversary of the takeover of the biggest military installation in the Republic of Macedonia from the JNA.
During the ceremony, the ARM units situated in the barracks “Ilinden” welcomed the Colour Guard Platoon bearing the military flag, and then they were addressed by the Special Operations Regiment Commander and at the same time the current commander of the barracks, Brigadier General Orce Jordev.
Giving a brief historic overview of the events that took place on 26th of March 1992, when the last JNA soldier left and the national flag of the Republic of Macedonia was raised on the mast, General Jordev also emphasised the importance of this event not only for ARM, but also for the Republic of Macedonia.
At the ceremony, certificates of appreciation were given to ARM officers and NCO`s who participated and witnessed this historic event, including the first Commander of the barracks Gene Stanojkovski, the Commander of the Guard Unit, which took over securing the barracks, Janche Andonovski, and the soldier who first raised the national flag of the Republic of Macedonia at the mast in the barracks Zaklina Poposka.
Those who have witnessed these events did not hide their emotions in front of the media, while recalling what had happened during that turbulent period of our history. Those moments were the beginning of a successful story for ARM, with scarce material and technical means, but with service personnel which had nothing but love for the fatherland, contributing to what ARM represents today.
