The Members of the Honor Guard Battalion with a symbolic military ceremony in the “Ilinden” barracks in Skopje, following the measures and protocols for prevention of the spread of the virus “COVID-19”, marked November 11 – Day of the unit.
The Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, addressing the audience, congratulated them on the Day of the unit, emphasizing the successes of the unit in the activities they had in the past period. He referred to the ongoing transformation processes and the efforts of the General Staff to further improve the situation affecting the overall functioning and status of members, including the upcoming dislocation of the unit in renovated and improved facilities in the barracks.
Referring to the planned activities of the most representative unit of the Army, which due to the current situation were not realized, he stressed the personal and collective obligation to fully focus on supporting all subjects in overcoming the situation with the pandemic.
The commander of the unit, Lieutenant Colonel Darko Stojkoski, gave a brief overview of the unit’s participation in the activities in promoting full NATO membership so far, the achieved results, expressing gratitude for the special commitment and confidence that the unit would respond to all assigned tasks observing the unit code of values “Honor, Courage and Commitment”.
On the occasion of the day of the unit, incentive measures were awarded to some of the members for the achieved results in the operation and raising the combat readiness of the unit.
The Honor Battalion originates from the First Guards Brigade, which was formed on 26.03.1992 after establishing the country’s independence, while November 11, as the Day of the Unit, is taken over as the bearer of the traditions of the First Macedonian-Kosovo Brigade, which was formed on this day in 1943 in the village Slivovo.
