Today, 18 February (Tuesday) at the military stadium, in the city park in Skopje, with a formal line-up of sports teams from the garrison Skopje and the Ministry of Defence started the sport’s day celebration “18th February-Day of International Sports”. The chief of General Staff of ARM Lieutenant-General Goranco Koteski opened the ceremony, which is held the ninth time. At the opening of the sport’s day, The Chief of General Staff accentuated that sport is an important part of the training in ARM, and it is the best way to develop friendship, brotherhood, and closeness of people from all over the world.
General Koteski stressed the importance of ARM membership in the International Military Sports Association, in which frameworks the Army will participate in the Second Cadet Olympic Games in Ecuador, in August. He recalled that there are top sports players among the ARM members, who are members of the Olympic Representation of Macedonia; he also wished sport’s spirit and great results to the contestants.
This sports event is being held simultaneously today, in all Army garrisons, where over 2000 ARM members compete, under the motto “Sports for All”, in the following disciplines: 8 km cross for men, 4 km cross for women, soccer, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and chess. In Skopje the cross was held on the track from the military stadium to hotel “Aleksandar Palace” and back, and the other sports were held on the military stadium and in “Ilinden” barracks. Since 2005 ARM is a full member of the International Military Sports Council, with the right to participate in all international sports competitions organized by the International Military Sports Association.
