Today, the Chief of the Army General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski together with a delegation from the Hungarian Armed Forces, led by the Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Armed Forces, Gábor Böröndi, visited the members of the Macedonian and the Hungarian Special Forces at the Army Training Area “Krivolak”. Since September 15 2025, the joint exercise Cold Peak 25 has been conducting there.
As part of the visit, a demonstrative methodological exercise “Conducting Joint Special Operations in Urban Environments Supported by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles” was carried out at the event. The exercise presented the interoperability between the two allied special units in executing complex scenarios.
On this occasion, General Lafchiski expressed his satisfaction to be the host of the Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Armed Forces, General Böröndi, emphasizing the excellent bilateral cooperation between the two countries. General Lafchiski stated that a proof of this cooperation is the exercise Operation Cold Peak 25, which was agreed upon during General Böröndi‘s visit to the Army and our country in June, this year.
Referring to the exercise Operation Cold Peak 25, General Lafchiski noted that such exercises strengthen the interoperability and give an opportunity to train the tactics, techniques and procedures necessary for carrying out future operations.
In his address, General Böröndi highlighted that this exercise, which is being conducted simultaneously in two different countries, confirms the readiness of the special units of both armies to carry out joint complex operations in diverse environments, regardless of the distance.
The exercise Operation Cold Peak 25 is being conducted simultaneously at military training areas in both, Macedonia and Hungary, and its aim is to improve the interoperability in mountain warfare, military alpinism and climbing, the use of drones in special operations and close combat in urban environments. This type of field exercises, where simultaneously executed special tasks are carried out on unknown terrain in two countries according to previously issued and planned missions, represents the most complex form of training activity.
