The Army Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski paid his annual visit to the KFOR Command in Pristina, as part of his two-day official visit to Kosovo.
During the meeting, General Gjurchinovski and the Commander of the KFOR mission, Major General Franco Federici discussed our contribution to this NATO mission, the current matters regarding the mutual cooperation with the mission Command, the security situation in the region, as well as the upcoming planned activities with the KFOR forces.
Generals Gjurchinovski and Federici pointed out the current mutual cooperation as important for the general security situation in the region, especially with our direct involvement with personnel in the activities of the NATO operation. They also considered the possibilities for broadening the cooperation.
Today, the military delegation also visited the members of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia who carry out their tasks within the regional KFOR Command in Pec. This is the first visit by the Chief of GS to our members, after our first engagement in the mission. During his visit to the Command in Pec, General Gjurchinovski had a meeting with the Commander of this Command, Colonel Andrea Bertazzo and with the Commander of our team, and he was also introduced to the tasks that the members of the Command perform. After that he attended a presentation of the assets and equipment, as well as a demonstration exercise with some of the activities performed by the participants in the mission.
Since November last year, the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia has begun with a direct participation in the KFOR mission within the regional KFOR Command – West located in Pec, where our members, together with the members of the Armies of Italy and Moldova perform tasks that include patrolling and securing the Decani Monastery and the Command. The staff element of the contingent performs tasks within the main KFOR Command in Pristina.
At the same time, the Republic of North Macedonia provides support to KFOR in the transit through our country during customs and border procedures, in the use of our capacities for medical evacuation, as well as in other needs of KFOR in the area of logistics that take place through the coordination center for support by the host country.
The regular planned meetings between the highest leaders of the Army and KFOR are held every year and are of great importance for the regional security.
Tomorrow, General Gjurchinovski will have a meeting with the Commander of the Kosovo Security Forces, Lieutenant General Rahman Rama and with the Minister of Defence of Kosovo, Armend Mehaj.
