A delegation of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany, led by the Chief of Defence, General Carsten Breuer, was received with full military honors at the General Staff by the Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Sashko Lafchiski.
During the meeting, General Lafchiski and General Breuer reaffirmed the longstanding cooperation between the two Armed Forces, which is carried out through joint training, exercises, capability development, and other forms of bilateral military cooperation.
The official discussions also focused on the current regional and global security environment, security challenges within NATO’s area of operations, NATO’s regional plans for Southeast Europe, participation in international missions and operations, as well as the Army’s ongoing modernization and equipment procurement process. The delegation was also briefed on the capabilities of the Army Training Area “Krivolak”, one of the most significant military training facilities in Southeast Europe.
As part of the official visit, General Breuer also met with the Minister of Defence, Vlado Misajlovski. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the excellent bilateral defence cooperation, built on mutual trust, shared values, and a strong commitment to collective defence.
The counterparts emphasized that both countries are actively working to further strengthen cooperation, which will contribute to enhancing the defense capabilities of the Macedonian Army.
In his statement to the media, General Lafchiski stressed: “Today’s discussions reaffirmed our shared commitment that we, the Allies, remain united around our primary mission, to defend every inch of NATO territory”. He underscored that the Army remains fully committed to implementing NATO decisions and the Declaration adopted at the NATO Summit in Ankara.
General Breuer highlighted that Germany has consistently supported North Macedonia on its path toward NATO membership and that, since the country’s accession to the Alliance, the partnership between the two nations has grown even stronger. He emphasized that the Republic of North Macedonia is an important factor for stability in Southeast Europe and that its contribution to regional and collective security is highly valued by Germany.
“Our common objective is clear, to strengthen NATO’s European pillar through unity, capability development, tangible military contributions, and close cooperation among trusted Allies, partners, and friends,” General Breuer said in his statement to the media.
During his visit to North Macedonia, General Breuer is also scheduled to meet with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, and the Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski.
General Breuer’s visit reaffirms the proven bilateral partnership between the Army and the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as the shared commitment to further advancing cooperation in the interest of regional and collective security.
