Teams from the commands and units of the Army, at the Military Stadium in the City Park in Skopje, started the celebration of February 18 – International Military Sports Day for the twentieth time.
The ceremonial opening of this sports event was attended by the Minister of Sports, Borko Ristovski, the Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, the State Secretary at the Ministry of Defense, Elizabeta Chupovska Ristova, and representatives from the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense.
On this occasion, also an anniversary, 20 years of the Army’s membership in the global family of the International Military Sports Council, the Chief of the General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, emphasized at the opening ceremony that there is no better place than the Military Stadium and the quay of the Vardar River, which will turn into a real sports arena where the endurance, physical and mental fitness of the participants will be tested.
In his address, General Lafchiski said that the motto “Friends in Sports” should be imperative during the competitions, which will demonstrate mutual respect, tolerance, understanding and fair play. He also added that participants will make proud the units they represent.
At the ceremony, as a sign of gratitude, continued support and successful cooperation, the Chief of the General Staff awarded the Minister of Sports Borko Ristovski with the Army’s medium plaque.
Also, for the sport results achieved, professional soldier Ljubomir Spasikj was presented with a trophy for the best athlete in the Army for 2024.
After the completion of the competitions in the disciplines: football, basketball, volleyball, running and table tennis, in individual and team competition, the winners will be awarded certificates.
The International Military Sports Council is an organization formed on February 18, 1948, and the Army has been a full member since 2005. Through the programs of the International Military Sports Council, in addition to the remarkable results it achieves, it further contributes to the development of inter-army cooperation, friendship, and peace in the region and the world.
