The Day of the General Staff of the Army and the 4th anniversary of the membership of the Republic of North Macedonia in NATO were marked with an official ceremony at the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff.
The Day of the General Staff of the Army, 28 March, was celebrated officially for the first time, marking the date when 32 years ago in 1992 the General Staff as the highest military body of the Army was established. This symbolically almost coincides with the achievement of our strategic goal, gaining the membership in the NATO alliance on 27 March 2020
The Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs, Bojan Marichikj, the Minister of Defence, Slavjanka Petrovska, and the Director of the General Staff of the Army, Brigadier General Simeon Trajkovski gave speeches in front of a large number of guests attending the event.
At the ceremony the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski and the Minister of Defense, Slavjanka Petrovska, gave certificates of appreciation and awarded incentive measures to the personnel of Army and Ministry of Defense.
The General Staff of the Army, since 1992 till present day, continuously takes measures and conducts activities to successfully manage and directs all strategic and development processes in the Army within its jurisdiction. These processes were key to implementing the defense missions and tasks, and for the implementation of reforms in the defense, thus achieving the strategic aims and objectives of the country.
After becoming a fully-fledged NATO member, the General Staff played a vital part in the planning, organization and realization of the integration process for complete military accession and integration. After the signing of the accession protocol, measures and activities were undertaken by the General Staff’s personnel with utmost dedication, and their efforts resulted in successful realisation of the defined tasks and requirements of the integration process. The crown of the process was the signing of the joint declaration on a complete military integration of the Republic of North Macedonia to NATO.
Current and former members of the General Staff of the Army, deserve praise for their commitment and dedication, for all the achievements.
28 March was declared the Day of the General Staff with a decree by the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Army.
Beside the official celebration, the Day of the General Staff of the Army was also marked with a military parade of the personnel of the General Staff on the date of its formation, 28 March.
