Today, at the military stadium in the City Park Skopje, was marked the “18th February – the Day of International Military Sports Council (IMSC)”. This Sports’ Day, which is held for the tenth time in the ARM, was opened by the commander of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) of the ARM, Major General Metodija Velichkovski.
At the ceremonial opening, in front of the sport teams, General Velichkovski pointed out that this day is a significant part of the training and development of the combat readiness of the ARM. Addressing today’s winners he said that their win should be a result of an equal, fair play, which marks the military profession. General Velichkovski said that through this kind of competitions a selection will be made and representatives of the ARM will be chosen to represent our army at the 6th Military Olympics which is to be held in South Korea this year.
Besides the competitions, at today’s ceremony, professional soldier Igor Cvetanovski from the Special Operations Regiment was declared ‘Sportsman of the year for 2015’. He received this title for his efforts in developing sport in the ARM. On that occasion General Velichkovski handed him a diploma and a trophy with the IMSC emblem.
This sports event was simultaneously held today in all military barracks of the ARM, where over 3000 members of the ARM under the motto “SPORT FOR ALL” competed in the following disciplines: 8 km/men and 4 km/women cross-country, futsal, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and chess. The Skopje cross-country was held at the track on the bank of River Vardar, and other disciplines on the terrains of the military stadium in Skopje.
Since 2005 the ARM is a full member of the International Military Sports Council, which allows it to participate in all international sport competitions organized by this international association of military sports.
