The Chief of the Army’s General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Slovenia, Goran Milevski, and the Commander of the Operations Command, Brigadier General Besnik Emini visited the Army members engaged in dealing with the floods in Mezhica, Slovenia, today.
At the meeting with our Army members, attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Army, Lieutenant General Robert Glavash, General Gjurchinovski acknowledged their professionalism and commitment when completing given tasks in clearing the terrain and remedying the consequences of the devastating floods.
In addition, General Gjurchinovski told our army members that with their selfless and wholehearted commitment in such critical situations, they represent not only the Army but also their homeland in the best light.
He also stressed the importance of the partnership and solidarity between the two armies, which is the result of their excellent relations, but also the NATO alliance, through whose mechanism for assistance and support in crisis situations the deployment of our members was conducted.
In his address, General Glavash, also expressed recognition and gratitude for their commitment and the tasks completed, which he had also previously expressed during the installation of a bridge in Mezhica.
During his stay in Mezhica, General Gjurchinovski, Ambassador Milevski and General Emini toured some of the locations where our army members have been engaged so far.
At today’s meeting, it was announced that in two days the Macedonian contingent will return to the Republic of North Macedonia, thanks to the expediency and completion of all tasks in accordance with the host country Plan for repair of the most critical and places of vital importance.
One hundred members of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia were deployed to assist in dealing with the flood consequences in Slovenia, in Mezhica, Chrna na Koroshkem, Zherjav and Prevalje, performing several tasks such as clearing flood deposits in vital facilities, sports fields, streets, home of culture, private accommodation facilities, but also in installation of bridges.
The Slovenian Army military leaders, and the Minister of Digital Transformation Emilia Stojmenova Duh praised our Army members for their engagement.
The deployed Army team consists of the Operations Command and the Logistics Base subordinate units, manly from the 2nd Infantry Battalion and the Reconnaissance Battalion, as well as Engineer specialist teams for operating engineering machines, doctors, paramedics and members of the CBRN unit.
