The Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, visited the Army at the “Ilinden” barracks in Skopje today. This visit is part of his official visit to the Republic of North Macedonia.
The Secretary General was welcomed by the Chief of the Army General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski and the Minister of Defense, Vlado Misajlovski.
During the visit, the Secretary General addressed the members of the Army, highlighting the contribution that our country makes within the Alliance.
“You truly operate beyond your capacities when it comes to the Forward Land Forces, Rutte stated, emphasizing that “in doing so, you ensure that we really defend every inch of the Alliance’s territory”.
During the visit, a review of the assembled units was conducted, as well as a presentation of the equipment and materiel used by the Light Infantry Battalion Group and the declared units of the Special Forces Battalion.
In recognition of his contribution to strengthening the cooperation and supporting the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia within the Alliance, the Chief of the Army General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski awarded the NATO Secretary General with the Grand Plaque of the Army.
The event was attended by Army Generals and other members of the Army and the Ministry of Defense.
