Today the President of the Republic of Macedonia and Supreme Commander of Armed Forces, H.E. Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, accompanied by ARM Chief of Staff Lt General Metodija Velichkovski visited the ARM members deployed at the southern border.
At the Watchtower “Bogorodica” at Greek – Macedonian borders, President Ivanov was familiarized by the ARM members with the current security situation at the borders, with the attempts for illegal crossing of the state border in the past, as well as with the tactical measures and procedures applied by the ARM in accordance with assigned tasks in preventing illegal crossings of the southern border.
After the briefing at the Watchtower “Bogorodica” the delegation visited one of the accommodation facilities of ARM in Bogdanci, where the Supreme Commander was familiarized with the current security situation at the southern border in the area of responsibility of ARM forces, engaged forces, as well as means and modes of action in the upcoming period.
In his address President Ivanov expressed his appreciation to the ARM members for deployment on the border, which is important not only for the security of the Republic of Macedonia but also for Europe. The way in which ARM successfully tackles the challenges of migrant crisis is an example for other security structures in the region.
At the end of the visit, after the briefing on the situation at the state border, the delegation had lunch together with the ARM soldiers.
The Army of the Republic of Macedonia (ARM) remains in a condition of complete preparedness for safeguarding from any form of security breach of territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Macedonia, including all attempts at illegal entry into the territory of our country since the beginning of the migrant crisis.
Measures conducted by ARM, in accordance with the tasks assigned by the decision of the President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Gjorge Ivanov for enhanced and continuous securing of the southern and northern borders to help the Ministry for Interior and the Border Police, are visible in preserving the security of our country’s citizens.
ARM members perform their tasks in an extremely professional manner, preventing tens and some days even hundreds of attempts for illegal crossing of the state border. Until today more than tens of thousands of such attempts have been prevented.
