Military delegation of the International Military Staff (IMS) of NATO led by Brigadier Marijan Jelinievski, Deputy Director of the Sector of Security and Cooperation in IMS, visited the GS of ARM, where he met the CGS of ARM and some of the head officers.
Firstly, Brigadier Jelinievski met the CGS of ARM, Lieutenant General Metodija Velichkovski, where they discussed the importance of the continuous support by the executive bodies of NATO for integration of the Republic of Macedonia to NATO and identification of the military aspects for achieving this goal. Lieutenant General Velichkovski thanked him for the recent attachment of the Republic of Macedonia to the NATO’s program for improvement of education in defence, emphasizing it as another segment which brings Macedonia closer to full integration into NATO.
At the GS meeting there were present other guests, including, the military representative in NATO Major General Vasko Gjurchinovski, Brigadier General Mirche Gjorgjoski, the Chief of NATO Liaison Office Navy Captain Gorazd Bartol and the Section Chiefs of GS of ARM. The delegation of IMS of NATO got acquainted with the structure, mission and the tasks of ARM, as well as with the future activities.
In addition, at the meeting they discussed the consistency of ARM in the implementation of the defence reforms and realization of the partnership goals, the recent closure of the seventeenth action plan for membership of the Republic of Macedonia into NATO and the possibilities for promotion of the interconnections and cooperation. The delegation expressed their strong support and words of praise for the training of the members of ARM and the achieved results in the completion of the tasks during the peacekeeping missions led by NATO and at the international military exercises.
During the two-day visit of the Republic of Macedonia, the delegation of IMS of NATO besides meetings at the Ministry of Defence, will also visit the military training area Krivolak where they will be acquainted with the process of assessment of the middle infantry battalion group.
This is the first official visit by the International Military Staff of NATO, which is executive body of the high authority of NATO, the Military Committee seated in the HQ in Brussels, and its task is provision of strategic and military advice and support to the staff of the Military Committee. It represents the essential relation between the decision making political bodies of the Alliance and the strategic commanders of NATO and their staff.
