On the occasion of August 18th – Army Day, members of the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff, as well as Commands and Units in the barracks throughout the country celebrated the Army Day with different ceremonies.
Addressing the members of the Army, General Gjurchinovski noted: “In the past year, in which I have been acting Chief of Staff, together with you and with the support of the Ministry of Defence, we have accomplished all our planned tasks.”
He announced that in the forthcoming period, the implementation of the initiated reform processes would continue with a more intense pace, thus meeting the expectations of the state leadership and the citizens who unselfishly give us their confidence.
At today’s ceremony at the Army General Staff and Commands and Units on the occasion of Army Day, orders for promotion were announced and plaques, badges, certificates of appreciation and other incentives were given to Army members and organizations that had contributed to the development of the MoD and Army.
In the Army Commands and Units, tactical technical displays were organized at which the invited guests had the opportunity to get acquainted with some of the weapons, equipment and assets available to the units.
Delegations led by the Minister of Defence, Chief of Staff and representatives of the families of the deceased laid flowers at the memorial of the deceased defenders in front of the Ministry of Defence, and in the barracks, delegations placed fresh flowers in front of the busts of the Heroes whose names bear the barracks.
Also, during the day, delegations from the cabinet of the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Ministry of Defence and the Army General Staff laid wreaths of fresh flowers at the Partisan cemetery, at the tomb of the late President Boris Trajkovski, former President Kiro Gligorov, as well as the grave of General Mihailo Apostolski.
The solemn assembly of the employees of Ministry of Defence and General Staff was attended by: Minister of Defence Radmila Shekerinska and Chief of General Staff, General Gjurchinovski, Deputy Minister of Defence Bekim Maksuti, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Azim Nuredin, Secretary of State Dragan Nikolic, the NATO Liaison Office in Skopje, military attaches accredited to the Republic of North Macedonia and other guests.
The Central Army Day celebration will be held on August 18th at the Water Training Camp in Ohrid, which will be attended by the highest military and state officials. The President of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Supreme Commander of the Army, Stevo Pendarovski and Defence Minister Radmila Shekerinska will address the assembly.
