The Chief of General Staff of the Army, Major General Sashko Lafchiski has been attending the NATO Military Committee (MC) Conference held in Brussels, Belgium, yesterday and today. A lot of Chiefs of Defense are attending the conference including Chiefs of Defense of NATO member and partner countries, as well as commanders of NATO strategic commands, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Christopher Cavoli and Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, Admiral Pierre Vandier.
The NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, delivered opening remarks and addressed the Chiefs of Defense. The Conference was chaired by the Chair of the Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, who, upon the conclusion of the Conference, will hand over the duties to Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.
The focus of the Conference is on further strengthening the Alliance’s deterrence and defense, enhancing cooperation with partners, and continuing support for Ukraine.
General Lafchiski has actively participated in discussions on issues related to global security challenges, the Alliance’s deterrence and defense readiness, interoperability, threats, risks and challenges, as well as cooperation with partner states. In his address, he focused on our commitment to meeting capability goals, contribution to NATO missions and operations, and increasing the readiness of the Army through continuous modernization and supplying equipment.
During the Conference, General Lafchiski has discussed many issues with his NATO colleagues, all of which have a common interest in the defense field. In addition, he has had meetings with a few Chiefs of Defense of NATO member and partner countries. He has also presented Admiral Rob Bauer with a parting gift, as his tenure as the Chair of the NATO Military Committee will finish soon.
Furthermore, the Chief of the General Staff of the Army visited the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) at Mons. He met with NATO’s Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR), Admiral Keith Blount, and Deputy Commander of Allied SOFCOM, Major General Tony Turner. They have discussed global and regional security, the Army’s transformation goals, as well as opportunities for enhancing the cooperation and support from NATO allies.
General Lafchiski also met with the Army’s service personnel who are part of the NATO National military delegation of the Republic of North Macedonia deployed in Mons, as well as the staff officers who are part of the NATO command structure.
