Today at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, the ARM Chief of General Staff, Major General Vasko Gjurchinovski participated in the NATO Military Committee session associated with partaking in the mission ‘Resolute Support’ in Afghanistan, held in the format of NATO and its partner countries’ Chiefs of Defence.
In his first address at this session since his appointment as ARM Chief of GS, General Gjurchinovski first of all expressed his gratitude for the first visit of the Military Committee to Republic of Macedonia, which was realized in November last year. He also pointed out the contribution of the ARM to the mission Resolute Support, which can be seen not only through its participation from the very beginning, but also through the increase in the personnel taking part in the missions for 20 percent.
The military and civilian mission management briefed the session participants on the latest strategic and operational information related to the security situation in Afghanistan.
Discussing the plans presented by the chiefs of general staffs, directions and proposals for further participation and operation in the mission Resolute Support were given, and they will be considered in a meeting held in the format of Ministers of Defence.
Today, the ARM CGS had meetings and exchanged experiences with chiefs of GSs of NATO member states and its partner countries, they also discussed mutual cooperation.
In the next two days, during his visit in Brussels, General Gjurchinovski will have individual meetings with Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Lt Gen Steven Shepro, as well as with the Chairman of the EU Military Committee, General Claudio Graziano, where issues related to current processes of transformation and our contribution to collective security, seen through NATO and EU operations, will be discussed.
The Army of Republic of Macedonia started contributing to the mission for training, counseling and assistance ‘Resolute Support’ from its very beginning in January, 2015 and at the moment participates with 50 ARM members who perform their duties in several commands.
