In the period from 9 to 12 February 2026, training for forward observers was conducted at the barracks “Mirche Acev” in Prilep, within the facilities of the Artillery Battalion and at the Firing Range “Lekovo”.
During the training, personnel from the Artillery Battalion and personnel from the Infantry Battalion within the 1st Infantry Brigade (1st IBde) from the Artillery Branch enhanced their existing knowledge and acquired new insights in the field of artillery through theoretical instruction delivered via presentations, discussions, and the exchange of personal experiences.
At the end of the training, live artillery firing was carried out at the Firing Range “Lekovo” using a 105 mm M2A1 howitzer fitted with a 20 mm sub-caliber insert. The artillery cadets from the third and the fourth year took part in the exercise, serving in the roles of platoon and squad commanders.
The Forward Observer training provided an opportunity to refresh previously acquired knowledge, gain new expertise, and address challenges within the artillery domain. The objective of the several-day training was successfully achieved, ensuring that personnel are fully prepared to perform their duties and tasks as forward observers within the units of the 1st Infantry Brigade.
