With a special ceremony on November 2nd 2020, with the raising of the state flag of the Republic of North Macedonia on the mast at the KFOR base in Peja, the first contingent consisting of 44 soldiers from the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia, began the mission in the KFOR regional command – West, based in Peja.
The participation of our peacekeepers will contribute to the overall mission of KFOR, in providing a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244.
The KFOR mission commander, Major General Michele Risi, attended the Republic of North Macedonia flag-raising ceremony and addressed the crowd. In his speech, General Risi emphasized that the participation of our contingent will strengthen the relations between the Republic of North Macedonia and the other 26 nations, which are currently participating in the KFOR mission, led by NATO.
Their tasks include patrolling and securing the Dechani Monastery and physically securing the “Villagio Italia” camp, alongside Italian and Moldovan troops. The staff element of the contingent will operate within the KFOR headquarters in Prishtina.
