The members of the Honour Guard Battalion, marked the Day of the unit in barracks “Ilinden” with a military ceremony. The Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski attended the ceremony.
Addressing the members of the battalion, the Commander of the unit, Lieutenant Colonel Darko Stojkovski, said that the formation, motivation and discipline, which are legacy of previous generations of honour guards are the biggest investment in the reputation of this unit. Thus, the honour, bravery and dedication as the unit’s core values represent its strength.
The ceremony, beside the Chief of the General Staff, was attended by representatives of the commands and units of the Army, the Association of War Veterans and other guests. The members of the honour guard battalion performed the well-known drills, like “Egzircir” and there was also a performance of the military orchestra, which is part of this unit.
Incentive awards were given at the ceremony to members of the unit for the achievements and high results in their work and training.
The predecessor of the Honour Guard Battalion was the First Guard Brigade, which was established on 26th March 1992 at barracks “Ilinden”, after the Republic of Macedonia gained its independence. 11th November, as a Day of the Unit, was chosen in honour of the traditions of the First Macedonian Kosovo Assault Brigade, which was established on this date in 1943 in village Slivovo.
