A military celebration was held at the barracks “Mirche Acev” in Prilep, today on 9 April 2015, at which the service personnel of the Artillery Battalion (ArBn), part of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade (1MIBde), within the Joint Operations Command, marked the Day of the Unit, 10 April.
By a decree from the President of the Republic of Macedonia Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, 10 April is set as the Day of the Artillery Battalion marking the foundation of the first artillery unit in Macedonia as independent country.
The celebration apart from 1MIBde Commander was also attended by commanders of the units within the 1MIBde, former commanders of the unit, representatives of the WW II Veterans Association, mayors of the municipalities within the area of responsibility of the battalion, representatives of the religious organizations, representatives of public and private businesses in the region and the local media.
The ArBn commander Colonel Zharko Risteski in his speech gave a short account the history of the unit, while the 1MIBde commander, who also gave speech, stressed that he expected professionalism, discipline and reliability in executing the duties from all the members of the ArBn and he congratulated them on their day of the unit.
At the day of the unit, in the spirit of the celebration, incentive awards were given to the members of the ArBn, and the platoon of Lieutenant Martin Spasovski was pronounced the best platoon within the battalion.
As a part of the celebration at the barracks “Mirche Acev” there was a TT demonstration of the weapons and equipment, which was attended by the students from the elementary and high schools from the municipality. There was also a blood donation activity in cooperation with the Red Cross of the Republic of Macedonia.
