Today (October 15, 2014) in the military barracks “NH Strasho Pindzur” in Petrovec there was a celebration of the Day of Air Surveillance and Reporting Battalion (ASRB) within the Air Force Brigade (AFB).
15th of October was set as the day of ASRB by the President of the Republic of Macedonia and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. That historical day is considered to be the beginning of Air Surveillance in the Republic of Macedonia because on the 15 October 1943 in the area of Crvena Voda, the mountain of Karaorman there was an organized set-up of an improvised airport where the first Military Aid for the Macedonian Army was delivered by 6 British airplanes. Before the successful acceptance of the Aid there were activities such as giving an order to set up the airport, marking of the same, organizing the visual surveillance of the airspace due to in-time signal activation after appearance of the planes which represents one of the first tasks of this type in the Republic of Macedonia. ASRB celebrates this historical event as a day of the unit and it represents continuation of the tradition.
The Commander of the ASRB, Lieutenant Colonel Aleksandar Krstevski in his address pointed out that the members of the ASRB with their professionalism, unselfish dedication to their profession and service, deeply set military code of behavior, as well as their efficiency in carrying out all their assigned tasks, nurturing important values and maintaining high standards of a member of a unit for air surveillance and reporting.
There were a lot of guests at the ceremony including the Commander of the AFB, Col Kire Kolevski, the Chief of Staff of the AFB, Col Zaim Shrijel, members of AFB, the local self-government, Ministry of Interior, retired members of ASRB and other guests.
The Chief of GS of ARM greeting was read at the ceremony as well as stimulating measures for battalion personnel.
The ceremony ended with a parade of the battalion units.
