The Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski began today his visit to the Republic of Slovenia, where he will participate in a regular meeting of NATO’s top military advisory body, the NATO Military Committee (MC).
The purpose of the meeting, which is expected to bring together about 600 senior military representatives from NATO and the member states, is to exchange views between the Chiefs of Staff and strategic commanders on issues of defence and security that are important to the NATO Alliance. Key topics of discussion according to the official NATO website will be the on-going missions and operational activities, maintaining preparedness, as well as building a concept of warfare in a modern security environment that can respond to contemporary security challenges.
The conference, held in the format of chiefs of staff of twenty-nine full-fledged member-countries plus one invited member, will be chaired by NATO’s MC chairman, Air Force Commander, Marshal, Sir Stuart Pitch, and Supreme Commanders of Europe Allied Forces and Allied Transformation Forces, Generals Tod Wolters and Andre Lanata, will attend the sessions.
The Military Committee at Chief of Staff level meets twice a year at NATO headquarters in Brussels, and meets once a year in an allied member state. Every day, their work is carried out by permanent military representatives at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
In November 2018 the NATO MC held a session in Skopje as a kind of support and a message for the achieved progress of the Republic of Macedonia towards full NATO membership.
