The members of the Special Forces Battalion, as bearers of the traditions of the formation of the first special unit in the Army, celebrated the Day of the Unit with a military ceremony in the barracks “Ilinden”.
On the occasion of marking the 28th anniversary of the formation of the special units within the Army, the Minister of Defense Slavjanka Petrovska, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Army, Major General Azim Nuredin and Battalion Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Zariovski gave speeches.
In her address, the Minister of Defense emphasized that the formation of the special forces marked the beginning of the professionalization of the Army, which is always ready to be a guarantee of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country. She noted that it is the first unit of the Army which, after joining NATO, successfully completed the combat readiness t assessment process.
Major General Azim Nuredin pointed out that the Special Forces Battalion is especially important not only for the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia but also for the citizens, because it is a professional army structure ready to respond to all modern security challenges. “By participating in exercises and joint trainings with the Allied Armed Forces, you have confirmed the achievement of the main goal: improving the ability of special forces to conduct operations in coordination with conventional forces, increasing interoperability, strengthening mutual relations and trust between armies”, said General Nuredin.
The commander of the unit, Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Zariovski, said that with the professional execution of tasks related to the mission of the unit they will continue to be an example for the others, promising that the capacity they have built over the past 28 years will be maintained and upgraded.
Besides the Minister of Defense, Slavjanka Petrovska and the Deputy Chief of General Staff, Major General Azim Nuredin, the ceremony was attended by former commanders of the battalion and commanders of other units in the Army from the “Ilinden” Barracks.
At the ceremony, incentives were given to the members who stood out in the performance of their tasks. On the eve of marking the day of the unit, an action for voluntary blood donation and humanitarian action were carried out.
