The Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, who leads the delegation of the Army of the Republic of North Macedoniain, completed the planned activities with today’s visit to the main commands of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Republic of Romania.
During the visit, General Gjurchinovski first had an official meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of the Romanian Armed Forces, General Daniel Petrescu, during which they discussed the security situation, the identification of ways to promote bilateral cooperation and measures to strengthen the allied deterrence and defensive position of the eastern flank, including the participation of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia in the missions planned by NATO in Romania.
Related to our engagement so far, General Petrescu expressed his gratitude for the contribution that shows allied solidarity and unity in NATO common defense policy, as well as increasing interoperability that will be achieved through joint training and activities.
The Chief of the General Staff also toured the garrison in Caracal, where members of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia will soon be deployed and perform their duties, as part of the multinational force for NATO’s enhanced vigilance activities.
During the visit, General Gjurchinovski also visited the Military College, the main headquarters of the ground, air and naval forces, as well as an infantry battalion, where he had meetings with the military leaders of these commands and units.
At the same time, the delegation participated in a conference in the field of security, where the current challenges and the security structure of the wider Black Sea region, related to the conflict in Ukraine and the new strategic concept of NATO were debated through panel discussions.
At the conference, besides speakers from the NATO Defense College, the US Naval Academy -Monterey, the UK Chatham House, the US Army Europe former commander, General Ben Hodges, a member of our delegation, Colonel Marjan Milenkovski took part in the panel discussion.
The cooperation of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia with the Armed Forces of Romania, which began in 1998, has been developed mainly through expert meetings, joint participation in exercise and training, cooperation in military education and participation in regional initiatives and forums.
The Republic of North Macedonia and Romania are members of the South East Defense Ministerial – SEDM, the Balkan Countries CHOD Forum – B9, the Center for Security Cooperation -RACVIAC.
At the 79th session, the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia made the decision the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia to participate with its own units in the multinational forces of NATO, as part of NATO’s enhanced vigilance activities.
