The Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, who is on an official visit to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, held meetings in Tirana at the highest military and state level, during which further advancement of inter-army cooperation was discussed.
As part of the visit, General Lafchiski held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, during which they discussed the security situation in the region, allied cooperation, and the common challenges in the contemporary security environment. The continuously strong bilateral cooperation between the Macedonian Army and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania was also highlighted, particularly in the areas of joint training, exercises, and participation in regional and NATO activities, which represents a significant contribution to regional and collective security.
Following the reception with high military honors at the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Albania, General Lafchiski held separate meetings with his host, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, Lieutenant General Arben Kingji, and with the Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi.
At the meeting between the Chiefs of the General Staffs, several issues were discussed, including the enhancement of military cooperation through the implementation of joint activities, training and exercises, participation in international operations, current security challenges, as well as the possibilities for utilizing the capacities available to both armies and their mutual cooperation in crisis management.
Mutual military cooperation and its advancement, as an important factor for regional and collective security, were also discussed during General Lafchiski’s meeting with the Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi.
During the discussions, the importance of cooperation between the two armies in strengthening stability and security in the region, as well as their contribution within NATO, was emphasized. A shared commitment to the continuous enhancement of bilateral military cooperation was also reaffirmed.
The Army delegation also visited the Special Operations Regiment of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, where they were introduced to the unit’s mission, tasks, and capabilities, and a demonstration of some of its operational capacities was conducted.
The Macedonian Army has developed strong bilateral cooperation with the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, most notably in the fields of military education, training, and exercises, both bilaterally and within the framework of the Adriatic Charter, the Balkan Countries Chiefs of Defence Forum, and the SEDM process. The visit to the AF of the Republic of Albania represents an excellent opportunity for further advancement of cooperation between the two armies.
