The Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, together with the Minister of Defence, Vlado Misajlovski, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski, participated as members of the state delegation led by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, at the NATO Summit held on 8 July 2026 in Ankara, Republic of Türkiye.
At the Ankara Summit, in the adopted declaration, the Heads of State and Government of NATO member countries once again reaffirmed their ironclad commitment to collective defense under Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, transatlantic bond, and NATO’s 360-degree approach to deterrence and defense. They emphasized that unity, solidarity, and collective strength are the foundation of peace, security, and prosperity for the citizens of the Alliance.
The Allies also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening defense capabilities through increased investment, the development of the defense industry, and the introduction of modern capabilities, including integrated air and missile defense, unmanned systems, cyber and space capabilities, and the application of artificial intelligence. In addition, the Allies reaffirmed their continued support for Ukraine, announcing further military assistance, training, and equipment throughout 2026.
During the Summit, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, stated:
“The motto ‘Stronger Europe – Stronger NATO’ carries great significance. Enlarged, united Europe is a stronger Europe, but the strongest Europe is a Europe that lives in peace and democracy, based on principles and values.”
