Today (8 August), a delegation from the Ministry of Defence and the Army General Staff, led by State Secretary Elizabeta Chupovska Ristova and Director of the General Staff, Brigadier General Orce Jordev, laid a wreath of fresh flowers at the memorial dedicated to the Macedonian defenders who lost their lives at the Karplak area in 2001.
In honour of the fallen defenders, delegations from the Office of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Army, the Government, representatives of the families of the fallen service members, as well as citizens’ associations laid fresh flowers.
The 25th anniversary of the death of the ten Army members was also commemorated in Prilep, where a delegation from the Army General Staff and the Ministry of Defence laid fresh flowers in front of the “Karplak” Memorial Complex. Earlier, tribute was also paid to the fallen defenders at the memorial site and memorial room at the “Mirche Acev” barracks in Prilep by delegations from the Army, families of the fallen defenders, the local self-government, and citizens.
In the attack on an Army convoy on the Skopje -Tetovo motorway near the Karplak area on 8 August 2001, the following members of the Army’s reserve forces from the Prilep garrison tragically lost their lives: Marko Despotoski, Nane Naumoski, Sasho Kitanoski, Branko Sekuloski, Goran Minoski, Erdovan Shabanoski, Ljube Grujoski, Darko Vejlanoski, Pece Sekuloski, and Vebi Rushidoski.
