Under the motto “Friendship through Sport”, members of Army commands and units traditionally marked “18th February – International Military Sports Day”, at the military stadium at Skopje City park.
Deputy Minister of Defense, Bashkim Hasani and Director of the General Staff, Major-General Zoran Mileski attended the opening ceremony. In his address Deputy Minister wished success to all sports teams and suggested they display respect, tolerance, mutual understanding, acceptance and fair-play during the course of all sporting events.
At this year’s sporting event, which was also held throughout other garrisons, participants competed in the following disciplines: running, futsal, table tennis, handball, chess and basketball.
Best teams and individuals were awarded Certificates of Appreciation on the completion of the competing events. Also, winners were declared and certificates for best sportspeople in the Army for 2021 were awarded. Corporal Milosh Ranchic, winner of all army competitions in athletics, was declared best Army sportsmen. Second best sportsman in the Army is the European wild-water canoeing champion professional soldier Ljubomir Spasic. And, professional soldier Antonio Dimovski, who was top goalscorer at the regional CISM Futsal Cup in Sarajevo, BIH, holds third place.
The Army has been a member of the CISM (International Military Sports Council) since 2005, and Army members, who continually achieve outstanding results when taking part in these sports events, besides their participation in the competitions also contribute to the development of inter-army cooperation, friendship and peace in the region and the world.
