The Engineer Battalion servicemen of the 1 Mechanized Infantry Brigade helped the civilian structures in the regions where the floods which had occurred last month and caused damage to the infrastructural constructions and built a new wooden bridge in the village of Poroj, municipality of Tetovo.
In cooperaton with the local authorities and residents from the village of Poroj, the engineers conducted an inspection and produced a plan, a program and a progress schedule, included in the preamble to the bill of quantities, so the construction started on 4 September 2017.
15 servicemen from the Engineers battalion had been working for 16 days on the construction of a new wooden bridge in the village which was completed and handed over to the locals on 20 September, 2017. The Minister of defense Radmila Shekerinska, Deputy Minister of Defense Bekim Maksuti, and the Deputy Chief of General Staff of ARM Major General Muhamet Racaj, and representatives of the local authorities from Tetovo and Poroj attended the handover.
The wooden bridge is built on concrete foundations with wooden beams which are 4,5 meters tall, 5,5 meters wide and 10,5 meters long. The weight limit of the bridge is 4 tons, which means that motor vehicles, tractors and carts can use it and there is a designated area for pedestrians.
The local community of the village of Poroj and the municipality of Tetovo provided the material and technical resources and part of the tools needed for the construction of the bridge.
In 2015 ARM was also engaged in the village of Poroj when the torrential rain damaged the bridges and there was drift brought by the flood. The Engineer Battalion built two wooden bridges and helped to restore the infrastructural constructions and clear the drift.
