Continuous enhancement and improvement of cyber security skills of the Army service personnel is of ultimate importance for the Army and for the overall cyber security of the country. The Army service personnel working in the cyber security domain in the Army participated in this kind of specific exercises in order to maintain their high level of capabilities.
The Army service personnel working in the cyber security domain in the Army participated in the largest regional cyber security exercise “ARSC2EX 24 which took place from 24th of June to 5th of July in Postojna, Republic of Slovenia. Our Army service personnel’s participation is very important for strengthening mutual trust in building collective cyber defense together with NATO member states and their partners.
There were seven countries which participated in this regional cyber security exercise including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro and the Army Service personnel form North Macedonia. Additionally, the USA partners joined the cyber security exercise including Iowa, Minnesota, Maryland, Maine, Colorado, and New Jersey. The goal of the exercise was to strengthen the participants’ capabilities to actively monitor and react to cyber threats, improve the cooperation and sharing information among the allied countries in order to protect the cyber space.
At the beginning of the exercise the participants learned how to use advanced security tools and techniques for detecting and preventing cyber-attacks. Afterwards, there was a simulation of a real life cyber incident when the participants defended their nets, detected and eliminated cyber-attacks. There were a few real life scenarios which gave the participants a chance to test their skills to deal with complex security challenges.
At the end of the exercise the participants demonstrated their capabilities and newly acquired skills which are extremely important in their future work in the cyber defense. The Chief of the Communication and Information System and Cyber Defense Section at the General Staff of the Army, Colonel Blazho Georgievski was present at the closing ceremony including representatives from the participating countries. They were all briefed on the goal of the exercise, how it started, the activities during the exercise, and the final outcome of the exercise, all of which will contribute to more efficient joint response to cyber-attacks in the cyber space.
Cyber defense is extremely important component in modern military strategy, it is also essential in the security of the operational readiness, security of information and technological superiority of the military organizations in a time of constant cyber threats.
