Within the framework of a several-day visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, today in Brussels, the Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski participated at a meeting of the European Union Military Committee, at the Chiefs of Staff level.
At this meeting of the European Union’s highest military body, where General Gjurchinovski is participating for the first time since his appointment, besides issues related to security and the interoperability between armies and NATO, the army leaders have discussed training and joint exercises as part of the the Military Committee mission.
The meeting was chaired by General Claudio Graziano, who had the first official visit to the Army General Staff as a Chairman of the Military Committee last month.
Our participation in the European Union’s common defense policy, where besides our continued participation in the ALTHEA mission, we take part in the EU combat groups which is an important element of the political process and fulfilling the criteria for full membership in the European Union.
Yesterday, General Gjurchinovski met with the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, to discuss topics of mutual interest and further activities of our Army related to full-fledged NATO membership.
Tomorrow, at the NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Power Europe (SHAPE), in Mons, General Gjurcinovski will have an official meeting with the Chief of Staff of this supreme command, General Markus Kneip.
