The celebration marking the Day of Honour Guard Battalion (HGBn) took place, today, at barracks Ilinden.
The Director of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Zoran Mileski, himself, and on behalf of the Chief of the General Staff, congratulated the members of the battalion on the Day of their unit. General Mileski, addressing the members of the Honour Guard Battalion and the other guests, mentioned the development of the unit which upholds the traditions of the First Macedonian-Kosovo Brigade, which was created on this day in 1943.
“Today we can say with certainty that we are in the presence of one of the most recognisable and distinguished units of the Army. The honour guards’ precision and the performance of the military orchestra were demonstrated on several events throughout the year among which the most remarkable were: the celebration marking the Army’s 30th anniversary, the joint performance with the Norwegian King’s Guard, the concert with the Albanian Armed Forces, the support in organising the B-9 Forum of Chiefs of Defence/General Staffs Conference in Ohrid, which received recognition both at home and internationally”, said Mileski, expressing his own recognition for the successful accomplishments of the unit’s activities.
The Commander of the HGBn, Lieutenant Colonel Darko Stojkoski, in his speech, said that marking the day of the unit was a special moment uniting the historic importance and the traditions with the modern character of the unit. “It is an opportunity to commemorate the brave deeds of the People’s Liberation War fighters and to express the enthusiasm and dedication of generations of members of honour guards from the First Honour Guard Brigade, and to express our determination to serve with dignity upholding the honour guard values: honour, bravery and dedication”, stressed Lieutenant Colonel Stojkoski.
He emphasised that these achievements were always an incentive and additional motivation to achieve even greater results.
At the ceremony of the Day of the unit, incentive awards were given to the members of the HGBn for their achievements.
The ceremony, besides the Director of the General Staff, Major General Zoran Mileski, was also attended by commanders of commands and units of the Army and other guests from the MoD and the GS of the Army.
