Ceremonial Guard Battalion (CGBn), today at the barracks “Ilinden“, Skopje celebrated the 11th November – the Day of the Unit. The ceremony was attended by: the Deputy Chief of GS Major-General Muhamet Racaj, Deputy Commander of the Special Operations Regiment Brigadier General Pavle Arsoski, commands of subordinate commands and units of GS of ARM, former commanders of the unit, as well as representatives from the Association of War Veterans and other distinguished guests.
Battalion Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Toni Tonev gave a brief overview of the history and the founding of the battalion, which is connected to the establishing of the First Macedonian Kosovo Brigade and the First Macedonian Proletarian Liberation Assault Brigade, 11th November 1943, whose traditions are still carried on by the members of the CGBn.
At the ceremony a CGBn delegation laid fresh flowers at the monument of the fallen members of the 1st Guard Brigade in 2001.
Upon the occasion incentive awards were given to CGBn service personnel, followed by the drill EXERCIR, for which this unit is renowned.
With a decree issued by the President of the Republic of Macedonia and the Supreme Commander of the Macedonian Armed Forces, the 11th November was pronounced the Day of the Unit, which at the same time also marks an important historic event.
