Today, the Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, participated in a panel discussion at the conference NATO – 75 Years of Unity, Cooperation, and Collective Defence: Security Challenges for Europe, held to mark the 75th anniversary of the Alliance.
The conference, organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, brought together high-ranking government officials, representatives of the international community, as well as experts in defence, security, and international relations from the country and the region. The participants discussed the current security challenges affecting Europe and the region, as well as the necessity for more intensive cooperation in light of increasingly uncertain security and geopolitical circumstances.
During the panel on National Security Challenges and Crisis Management Under NATO’s Umbrella, General Lafchiski emphasized the country’s participation in missions abroad and the contribution made to collective security, the modernization and equipping of the Army, the fulfilment of NATO capability goals as an obligation to the Alliance, and achieving full interoperability with allied forces. The panel addressed numerous questions regarding the role of the Army in improving national security, the possibility of reintroducing compulsory military service, and the tools the country utilizes through NATO to enhance national security.
