The security situation in the region and current migrant crisis, measures that the Macedonian Army (ARM) has implemented for a successfull dealing with the migrant crisis, ARM’s participation in operations to support peace, as well as planned future commitments in this field were topics of discussion at today’s meeting at the ARM General Staff (GS) between the ARM Chief of General Staff, LTC General Metodija Velichkovski, and the Commander of Land Forces within the Armed Forces of the Republic of Turkey, General Salih Colak, who is on an official visit to Macedonia and ARM.
During the official meeting with the delegation of the Republic of Turkey Armed Forces led by General Colak, which was attended by LTC General Metodija Velichkovski as well as by managerial and key personnel of the ARM General Staff, special emphasis was given to the joint participation in the peacekeeping mission “Resolute Support” in Afghanistan, where 13 senior officers of ARM perform tasks in the Regional Command for Training, Advising and Assisting the capital. This Command is under the leadership of the Turkish Armed Forces.
During his stay in the ARM General Staff, General Colak met with the Defence Minister Zoran Jolevski. At the both meetings special emphasis was given to the continued excellent cooperation between the two armies in the area of defence and support provided by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Turkey as a strategic partner of ARM. The military cooperation between ARM and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Turkey is constantly at a high level, and takes place in many areas particularly in the field of military education and joint participation in military activities, especially joint participation in peacekeeping missions.
As part of today’s visit, the delegation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Turkey visited the Special Operations Regiment (SOR). Members of SOR performed a demonstration exercise in which they presented skills in handling various terrorist threats.
