The President of the Republic of North Macedonia and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Stevo Pendarovski, today made his first working visit to the Ministry of Defense and the Army General Staff.
After being welcomed with military honors, President Pendarovski had a working meeting with Defense Minister Radmila Shekerinska and Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, where together with senior military and civilian authorities from the Ministry and the General Staff the key future steps towards full-fledged NATO membership were discussed.
After this meeting, in his statement for the press, president Pendarovski stated that he will closely cooperate both with the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, and that he will fully participate in finding solutions to problems and challenges these two institutions face. “We must invest in the Army, above all in the professional standard, as well as the living standard of the soldiers which must be a priority. I encourage members of the army, soldiers, NCOs and officers to continue their professional development, and the role of the leaders in these institutions is to provide that” pointed out the Supreme Commander.
During this visit, President Pendarovski, had separate meetings with Defense Minister Shekerinska and the Chief of the GS and Army Generals, which was followed by a visit to the NATO Military Liaison Office in Skopje and the Office of Defense Cooperation.
