Lieutenant General Miroslav Stojanovski
Lieutenant General Stojanovski has been nominated as chief of General Staff of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia since June 2005, a period marked by the highest operational tempo of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia. It is under General Stojanovski leadership as chief of General Staff that ambitious efforts took shape to remake, remodel and reform the Army of the Republic of Macedonia into a more flexible, more responsive and more capable and professional military.
General Stojanovski was born on July 10, 1959 in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. He finished primary school in Skopje, from 1974 to 1978 attended Military Secondary School in Belgrade and from 1978 to 1982 studied at the Military Academy of Land Forces, branch of infantry in Belgrade. He also completed a military police officers’ course in 1983. In 1996, General Stojanovski graduated the Command Staff Academy in Skopje and in 1998, he graduated the NATO Defense College in Rome.
During his career, General Stojanovski has served as a military police platoon and company leader from 1982 to 1989, anti-terrorist company leader from 1989 to 1991 and deputy commander of military police battalion. From 1992 to 1994, he served as Chief of the military police section in the security and counterintelligence department of the Ministry of defense. In 1994, General Stojanovski assumed the command of the Special Forces unit of the Ministry of defense. In the period of 1998 to 1999, he served in the Cabinet of the Chief of General Staff, before assuming the role of deputy chief of strategic researches section in the General Staff. From 2000 to 2001, he served in the Military Academy of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia, in Skopje as chief of PT section. In 2001, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assumed the command of the 1. Infantry brigade. To the rank of Major General, he was promoted in 2003, when he was appointed as deputy chief of General Staff.
In 2006, General Stojanovski was promoted to his present rank.
General Stojanovski and his wife Margareta have three children. He is fluent in English and he enjoys fishing and playing football.
